Fraud has come to light in the pension given to single women in Delhi. 25 thousand such women were getting this pension, who do not fall under the eligibility criteria.
In the previous Aam Aadmi Party government, these women were not verified on time. Due to this, a large number of ineligible women were taking pension for the last several years. Last year, about 3.80 lakh women were getting financial assistance.
25 thousand ineligible women were identified
At the same time, after receiving many complaints of ineligible women getting pension, the Women and Child Development Department started verification in October last year. So far, 2.28 lakh women have been verified, out of which 25 thousand ineligible women have been identified.
Officials say that women living alone after the death of their husband, divorced women from economically weaker sections, single women with an annual income of less than one lakh rupees get this benefit.
Verification of women is being done
In the verification, it has been found that many widows and divorced women were receiving pension even after remarriage. Women with financial income of more than one lakh rupees were also taking advantage of it. Pension of all these women has been stopped. Verification of the remaining women is being done.
It was told that due to the process of identifying ineligible women, pension could not be issued to eligible women for the last two months. An official of the department says that now pension is being issued to eligible women.
