Amidst the rising heat and heatwaves across the country, IIT Roorkee has achieved a major milestone. The institute has developed a heat stress warning system that will be able to warn a person about the health risks caused by heat five days in advance. This system has been specially designed keeping in mind the urban climate and public health preparedness.

This system developed by IIT Roorkee is based on the Heat Stress Risk Index Forecast (HSRIF), which works with the help of the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI). This system analyzes the heat stress sensitivity of a person by combining meteorological data with his age, health status and daily activities.
Heat stress alert will give information about the effect of temperature on a person
According to experts, this technology not only warns of normal temperature, but also tells how much that temperature can affect a particular person. That is, it will alert an elderly person, a diabetic or a person suffering from heart disease in advance about how dangerous the heat can be for their health in the coming days.
How will the new warning system work?
