Congress has accused the Central and Uttarakhand state governments of gross neglect of disaster-hit Uttarakhand. Congress party’s organization vice-president Suryakant Dhasmana said in a press conference on Sunday, August 31 that the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has forgotten Uttarakhand in this hour of crisis.
Dhasmana said that Prime Minister Modi is either busy with the elections going to be held in Bihar, or is on a foreign tour. But till now he has not even thought it appropriate to take care of the people of Uttarakhand who are suffering the wounds of the disaster. In fact, he has neither sent any central team to assess the loss of life and property due to the disaster in Uttarakhand nor has he sent any central minister to visit the disaster-hit areas in Uttarakhand. Apart from this, the Center has not yet announced a disaster relief package for Uttarakhand.
Dhasmana said, today most of the hill districts of the state are in a bad condition due to disasters. Dharali, Harshil, Sayanachatti, Ranachatti, Gangotri-Yamunotri National Highway in Uttarkashi district are in the grip of disaster. People’s houses, shops, hotels, homestays in Dharali, Harshil have been washed away in the flood of disaster. There has been a huge loss of life there. Similarly, there has been a huge loss of life and property due to the disaster in Tharali, Dewal, Badrinath of Chamoli district. A large part of Pauri district is also disaster-hit.
He demanded the state government to issue a white paper on the loss of life and property due to disasters. Dhasmana says that the entire state is surrounded by disasters and the Dhami government is busy in expansion. He also demanded the central government to declare Uttarakhand as a disaster-hit area and said that the central government should announce a special economic package for the relief and rehabilitation work of Uttarakhand.
It is worth noting that the month of August in Uttarakhand passed through terrible incidents of disasters. First of all, a terrible disaster occurred in Dharali of Uttarkashi on August 5. In this disaster, Dharali market was buried under 20 feet of debris. Many people went missing in the disaster. Whose whereabouts are still unknown. On 6th August, artificial lakes were formed in Pauri Garhwal and on 21st August in Syanachatti. After this, on 22nd August, cloudburst in Dharali of Chamoli caused a lot of damage. After this, recently the disaster in Basukedaar of Rudraprayag caused a lot of damage.
