Aadhaar-PAN linking, ITR filing… Complete these tasks before December 31st
If you are a taxpayer who couldn’t file your income tax return on time, you don’t need to worry. You can file a delayed or revised e-return under Section 139(4) of the Income Tax Act.
Last chance to file ITR
If you haven’t filed your original ITR by December 15th, the last date is December 31st. Taxpayers can now file their original ITR by December 31st. However, a late fee of up to ₹5000 may be applicable. If the taxpayer’s annual income is less than five lakh rupees, the late fee is capped at ₹1000. Interest will also be charged on the outstanding tax amount.
Revised Return
If you have already filed your ITR but need to correct any errors in the return, you can file a revised return by December 31st. However, you will have to pay an extra penalty of 25 to 50 percent.
Last date for Aadhaar-PAN linking is also December 31st
The last date to link your Aadhaar with PAN is also December 31st. Linking Aadhaar to PAN is mandatory for those whose Aadhaar was issued on or before October 1, 2024. The final deadline is December 31, 2025. Failure to link may result in your PAN card becoming inactive.
How to link Aadhaar and PAN?
- To link your Aadhaar and PAN, you need to visit the Income Tax Department’s e-filing website.
- Visit the website and click on the “Link Aadhaar” option.
- Select your PAN and Aadhaar numbers.
- Enter your registered mobile number.
- Grant permission to UIDAI for verification.
- Upon completion of the process, you will see a confirmation message.
