Renowned Hindi writer Vinod Kumar Shukla is no more. He breathed his last at AIIMS Raipur at the age of 89. The Chhattisgarh-based writer, a recipient of the Jnanpith Award, had been experiencing breathing difficulties. He was admitted to the hospital on December 2nd, where he was on a ventilator. He passed away today, Tuesday.

Vinod Kumar Shukla was born on January 1, 1937, in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh. He chose teaching as his profession and dedicated himself to literary creation. His writing style is known for its simplicity, depth, sensitivity, and uniqueness.
Significant contributions to novels and poetry
He made significant contributions to both the novel and poetry genres. His first collection of poems, “Lagbhag Jaihind,” was published in 1971. His major novels include “Naukar Ki Kameez,” “Deewar Mein Ek Khidki Rehti Thi,” and “Khilega To Dekhenge.” “Naukar Ki Kameez” was also adapted into a film, and “Deewar Mein Ek Khidki Rehti Thi” received the Sahitya Akademi Award.

His works enriched Indian and global literature. Vinod Kumar Shukla was honored with several awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award, Gajanan Madhav Muktibodh Fellowship, Raza Award, Shikhar Samman, Rashtriya Maithilisharan Gupt Samman, Dayawati Modi Kavi Shekhar Samman, Hindi Gaurav Samman, and Matrubhumi Award. In 2021, he was conferred with the highest honor of the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, the “Mahattar Sadasya” (Eminent Fellow), for his literary achievements.
