The Uttarakhand government has begun preparations for the Char Dham Yatra 2026. This time, the government is planning to ban mobile phones at all four pilgrimage sites. This decision has been taken to maintain the sanctity and decorum of the temples during the pilgrimage.

Mobile Phones to be Banned at Char Dham
A review meeting regarding the preparations for the Char Dham Yatra 2026 was held on Saturday at the Char Dham Yatra Transit Camp, chaired by Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey. In view of the increasing controversies at religious sites due to the making of reels and vlogs, it was decided in the meeting to ban mobile phones inside the Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri temples this year.

Mobile Phones Restricted Beyond Singhdwar in Badrinath
The administration believes that this decision will not only curb unnecessary controversies but will also allow devotees to have darshan (viewing of the deity) with complete devotion and concentration. The government has decided that mobile phones will be completely prohibited beyond Singhdwar in Badrinath.

BKTC to Arrange for Safe Storage of Devotees’ Mobile Phones
Similarly, devotees will not be allowed to carry mobile phones inside the Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri temple premises. The administration says that the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) and the concerned district administration will make appropriate arrangements for the safe storage of devotees’ mobile phones before they enter the temple premises.
