Putin will be the happiest man on Earth… Why did the Spanish Prime Minister say this? He said it would be the death of NATO

Spanisha Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez sharply criticized the United States over Greenland in an interview on Sunday. He said a US attack on Greenland would “make Putin the happiest man on Earth.” Sánchez stated that any US military action against the vast Arctic island, a territory of Denmark, would harm NATO and justify Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Sánchez’s comments come amid heightened tensions between the US and Europe over Greenland, with the US even threatening to seize the territory by force.
What Sánchez said
In an interview with the newspaper La Vanguardia, Sánchez said, “If we focus on Greenland, I must say that a US attack on that territory would make Vladimir Putin the happiest man in the world. Why? Because it would justify his attempted invasion of Ukraine.” He added, “If the United States uses force, it will be the death knell for NATO. Putin would be doubly happy.”
Trump to impose tariffs on Europe over Greenland
President Donald Trump reversed course on Saturday, threatening to impose new tariffs on European allies over Greenland. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said a 10% additional import tariff would be imposed on goods from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, and Great Britain, effective February 1. These countries are already subject to Trump’s existing tariffs. Trump wrote that these tariffs would increase to 25% on June 1 and would remain in effect until a deal is reached with the US to purchase Greenland.
Trump threatening to seize Greenland
Trump has repeatedly insisted that he will accept nothing less than outright ownership of Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark. Leaders in both Denmark and Greenland have stressed that the island is not for sale and does not wish to become part of the United States.
