Rajya Sabha MP and BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt was met with strong protests and black flags by Congress workers. Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt had arrived at the district headquarters in Gopeshwar to inaugurate the MP Championship Trophy 2025-26. Congress workers protested against BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt, showing black flags and chanting slogans over issues including the Ankita Bhandari murder case and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). Police had to struggle to control the protesting Congress workers.

During the MP Sports Mahakumbh, BJP state president and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt, who was visiting his home district, faced protests from Congress and Uttarakhand Kranti Dal workers who showed him black flags. On Sunday, the BJP state president had arrived at the sports stadium to participate in the MP Sports Mahakumbh program. During this time, Congress and Uttarakhand Kranti Dal workers strongly protested against him at the Gopeshwar Degree College gate. The protest created a chaotic atmosphere at the scene. There was pushing and shoving between BJP workers and the protesters, which the police had to work hard to control.

The protesters alleged that law and order in the state is in a deplorable condition and corruption has reached its peak. The protesters said that BJP leaders are playing with the sentiments of the people. They also expressed their anger over the failure to disclose the names of the alleged VIPs involved in the Ankita Bhandari murder case and said that protests over this issue are continuing throughout the state. The protest by Congress workers created a tense situation for some time.

However, the police force acted promptly, detaining the protesters and controlling the situation, thus maintaining law and order. On the other hand, on the occasion of the inauguration of the MP Championship Trophy, BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt congratulated the players and said that such competitions encourage youth towards sports and help in honing their talent. It is worth mentioning that the previous day in Uttarkashi, Congress workers stopped the convoy of Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi as he was returning from the “Government at the People’s Doorstep” program and showed him black flags. Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi had gone to attend the “Government at the People’s Doorstep” program organized in the Gangori area of ​​Uttarkashi.

After the program concluded, as the minister and the local MLA’s convoy was returning, Congress workers, who were already present near Gangori on the Gangotri National Highway, stopped Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi’s vehicle and showed him black flags. They alleged that the BJP government has failed on issues concerning the public and that people’s problems are not being addressed at the grassroots level. The protest created a chaotic situation for some time. However, the administration and police force present at the spot managed the situation, preventing any confrontation and ensuring the safe departure of the convoy.
