Gujarat: Harish Hasmukh Bhai Verma will become the district judge, has become famous across the country after sentencing Rahul Gandhi to 2 years imprisonment

Justice Harish Hasmukhbhai Verma, posted as Chief Judicial Magistrate in Surat District and Sessions Court, will now become District Judge. He has passed the examination given for promotion. It has been announced on March 10, 2023. According to a gazette notification issued about two and a half months ago on December 29, 2022, he was promoted from Additional Senior Civil Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate to Chief Judicial Magistrate and Additional Senior Civil Judge. Justice Verma has recently been in discussion across the country for sentencing Rahul Gandhi to two years in a defamation case.

The Gujarat government had issued a gazette notification on 29 December 2022. The notification contained the details of the promotion of judicial officers in district and sessions courts by the Gujarat High Court, in which the name of Harish Hasmukh Bhai Verma was also included. Verma, then posted as Fourth Additional Senior Civil Judge and Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Surat itself, was promoted as Chief Judicial Magistrate and Additional Senior Civil Judge.

Received second promotion within two and a half months revenue potential

On the other hand, according to Gujarat High Court’s notification dated March 10, 2023, Harish Hasmukhbhai Verma scored 127 marks in the 200 marks examination conducted under 65% promotion quota and is eligible for promotion from Senior Civil Judge to District Judge Cadre. According to this notification, a total of 68 senior civil judges including Verma have passed this exam.

Harish Hasmukhbhai Verma’s father has also been a lawyer

Originally born in Vadodara, Gujarat, 43 year old Hariya Hasmukhbhai Verma did his LLB from Maharaja Sayajirao College. After this he joined judicial service. According to media reports, Verma’s father has also been a lawyer. Harish Hasmukhbhai Verma’s image in the judicial corridors of Surat is that of a strict and flamboyant judge. It is said about him that he is very punctual.

Rahul Gandhi has been punished for his 2019 remarks. In the year 2019, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had allegedly made objectionable remarks regarding the Modi surname in an election rally. After which Gujarat’s BJP MLA Purvesh Modi filed a defamation case against Rahul. Harish Mukhbhai Verma completed the hearing in this case on March 17 and then on March 23 convicted Rahul Gandhi and sentenced him to 2 years imprisonment. However, the court granted bail to Rahul Gandhi, giving him 30 days to approach the higher court.
