Supreme Court’s big decision, degree will be investigated, 8- member high- level inquiry committee formed
In an important order, the Supreme Court has ordered degree verification of lawyers across the country. Emphasizing on transparency and confidence in the judicial process, a bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said that degree certificates of all lawyers would be verified. The court has also formed an 8- member high level committee for this. The chairman of the committee will be former Supreme Court judge Justice Deepak Gupta.
In fact, in the Supreme Court, a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice JB Pardiwala was hearing a petition by advocate Ajay Shankar Srivastava challenging an order related to the verification of lawyers. SUCO has constituted a high level committee keeping in view the hurdles in the verification process of lawyers. The committee can start work as per its convenience. They will have to file a status report by August 31.
The Supreme Court said that proper verification of advocates registered with the State Bar Council is very important for the protection of justice. It is the duty of every genuine lawyer in the country to ensure that their educational certificates are duly verified. If this practice does not go away from time to time, the judicial process will be in a serious jeopardy.
