Father has given dowry to keep a maid, not for cooking. We knew that father would give dowry, so we did not learn to cook. If only food was to be made, we would have married without dowry. I would learn to cook. You make and feed me too. The blunt answer of the wife left the husband speechless. He was complaining to the counselor about his wife not cooking food for himself and his mother. He didn’t expect the wife to respond so fiercely. Told in a suppressed voice that we had no demand. I am ready to cook, don’t take the matter any further. On Sunday, the case of husband-wife dispute had reached the counselor at the Police Line Family Counseling Center. The couple, residents of Sadar area, have been married for almost three years. The wife had complained to the police accusing her husband and mother-in-law of dowry harassment.

The couple was called for counselling. The counselor talked to the husband to know the root of the dispute. The husband told that he is an employee in a company. Wife is busy on the phone. She doesn’t even cook food for him and his mother. Due to which there is controversy everyday.

The wife’s temper rose as soon as she heard her husband’s words. She said that father has not given dowry worth lakhs so that she can come here and cook. He didn’t even learn to cook at home since childhood. She said to her husband in front of the counselor, you make it and feed me too. Seeing the attitude of the wife, the husband became silent. Both have been called for counseling on the next date.
