Junior Women’s Asia Cup: India held Korea to a 2-2 draw, came back from two goals down

The Indian women’s hockey team played out a thrilling 2-2 draw against Korea in their third match of the Junior Asia Cup 2023 here on Tuesday. Yujin Lee (15) and Jeon Choi (30) scored for Korea, while Deepika Soreng (43) and Deepika (54) equalized for India. India managed to share the points in the drawn match and remain on top of Pool A. The Korean team found its rhythm early in the match and dominated India in the first quarter. Korea won a few penalty corners but failed to capitalize. However, Yujin Lee gave Korea an early lead with a field goal from inside the circle.

Leading 1-0, Korea entered the second quarter with an aggressive approach and tried to put pressure on India. However, minutes before the half-time break, India launched a counterattack. Meanwhile, Korea changed gears and played more aggressively which helped them double their lead as Jeon Choi (30) converted a penalty corner with perfect accuracy.

Korea had a 2–0 lead at halftime. Korea attempted a penalty corner early in the third quarter but Indian goalkeeper Aditi Maheshwari made a good save. Then, India improved their game and Deepika Soreng (43) scored a field goal for the team. In the fourth quarter, Deepika (54) equalized by converting a penalty stroke. India will now play Chinese Taipei in the fourth and last Pool A match on June 8.
