Uttar Pradesh: Fed up with stalker, 16-year-old girl commits suicide, third such death since March
A 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide in a village in Agra in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday after being fed up with stalking by a youth. The police registered an FIR on the basis of the complaint of the girl’s brother.
The girl’s brother claimed that earlier their family was living in a village in Firozabad. She alleged that when she used to go to school, a man used to follow her and forcibly stop her.
According to the FIR, she stopped going to school and the family moved to Agra a few months ago, but the man traced their new address and started stalking her again.
The brother claimed that he had lodged a complaint against the man at the Firozabad area police station, but no action was taken, forcing the family to shift to Agra.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Etmadpur) Ravi Kumar Gupta said, “We have arrested the man from Firozabad on charges of abetment to suicide. He has been sent to jail and the body has been handed over to the family after the postmortem.
Police officials said the class 10 student was forced to skip her school and board exams in Agra this year due to stalking by the youth.
According to the police, the girl was found hanging from an iron noose in her room. No suicide note has been recovered from the spot. She lived with her mother and sister-in-law, who had gone out for work. His father and brother work in Delhi.
It is alleged that a few days before the incident, the accused Roop Kishore (19 years) had started living on rent near the girl’s house and one day when she was alone, he barged into her house and threatened to kill her family if she refused to marry him. Gave. The student’s father alleges that Kishore was pressurizing his daughter for marriage by torturing her for a year.
He said, ‘We had sought help from the police but did not register an FIR as we felt it would adversely affect his future. I came to Agra from Firozabad with my family, but the boy kept following my daughter and he also came to Agra. He said, ‘He was living on rent in a house nearby. My daughter was mentally stressed by all this.
Khandoli police station SHO Neeraj Kumar said, “Based on the complaint of the girl’s brother, sections 305 (abetment of child suicide), 354 (assault or assault on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) have been registered.” The FIR has been registered under sections of the Use of Criminal Force) and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.
A few months ago, a class 7 student in Firozabad’s area police station area committed suicide allegedly after repeated molestation by her friend’s father. The girl’s friend came to know about her problem and informed the matter to other family members. They filed a police complaint after which the man was arrested and sent to jail.
In another incident, a 17-year-old Class 11 student allegedly committed suicide at her home in Agra in March. A miscreant had threatened to kill her if she did not marry. Police said that he was arrested later.
