A 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide in a village in Agra in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday after being fed up with stalking by a youth. The police registered an FIR on the basis of the complaint of the girl’s brother.

The girl’s brother claimed that earlier their family was living in a village in Firozabad. She alleged that when she used to go to school, a man used to follow her and forcibly stop her.

According to the FIR, she stopped going to school and the family moved to Agra a few months ago, but the man traced their new address and started stalking her again.

The brother claimed that he had lodged a complaint against the man at the Firozabad area police station, but no action was taken, forcing the family to shift to Agra.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Etmadpur) Ravi Kumar Gupta said, “We have arrested the man from Firozabad on charges of abetment to suicide. He has been sent to jail and the body has been handed over to the family after the postmortem.

Police officials said the class 10 student was forced to skip her school and board exams in Agra this year due to stalking by the youth.

According to the police, the girl was found hanging from an iron noose in her room. No suicide note has been recovered from the spot. She lived with her mother and sister-in-law, who had gone out for work. His father and brother work in Delhi.

It is alleged that a few days before the incident, the accused Roop Kishore (19 years) had started living on rent near the girl’s house and one day when she was alone, he barged into her house and threatened to kill her family if she refused to marry him.
