Letter written to CJI on Newsclick case, ‘Journalism cannot be a case of terrorism’
After the raid on the houses of journalists associated with ‘Newsclick’, many media organizations have written a letter to the Chief Justice of India. In a letter written to CJI DY Chandrachud, an appeal has been made to stop the misuse of government agencies to suppress the media. The CJI has been asked to maintain freedom of expression. It has also been emphasized that attack on media not only destroys its independence but also affects the democratic structure of the country.
Let us inform you that on October 3, 2023, the Special Cell of Delhi Police had searched the houses of 46 writers, editors and journalists associated with the online news portal ‘Newsclick’. Two people were arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Their mobile phones and computers were confiscated.
