Uttar Pradesh: Swami Prasad Maurya resigns, writes letter to Akhilesh Yadav

Swami Prasad Maurya, who is often in the news for his controversial statements, on Tuesday resigned from the post of National General Secretary of Samajwadi Party. However, Maurya will remain MLC from SP. Maurya shared the resignation letter written in the name of party president Akhilesh Yadav on the social media platform ‘X’. He said that he will be ready to strengthen the party even without the post. Swami Prasad Maurya has given many controversial statements regarding Shri Ramcharitmanas and Sanatan Dharma as well as the consecration of life in the Ram temple of Ayodhya, which was opposed in his own party. When SP Chief Whip Manoj Pandey in the Assembly raised questions on the propriety of Pran Pratistha, he had recently called him a deranged person.

‘Eighty-five are ours, there is division among 15 also’
While revealing the purpose of joining SP in the beginning of the letter, Maurya wrote, ‘Ever since I joined Samajwadi Party, I have continuously tried to increase the support base. On the day of joining SP, I had given the slogan ‘Pachchassi toh hamara hai, 15 mein bhi bantwara hai’. Our great men had also drawn a similar line. Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar, the creator of the Indian Constitution, talked about ‘Bahujan Hitay Bahujan Sukhay’, while Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia said that ‘Socialists have tied the knot, the backward classes have got sixty out of a hundred’, Shaheed Jagdev Babu Kushwaha and Ram Swaroop Verma had said ‘ Ninety out of a hundred are exploited, ninety nine are ours’, similarly the great leader of social change Kashiram Saheb also had the same slogan ’85 versus 15′.

‘Sent me to the Legislative Council without any demand’
But despite the party continuously neutralizing this slogan and suddenly changing the candidates after filing the nominations and symbols of hundreds of candidates in the 2022 assembly elections, it was successful in increasing the support base of the party. The result of this was that while SP had only 45 MLAs, after the Assembly elections 2022, this number increased to 110 MLAs. Yet without any demand you sent me to the Legislative Council and immediately after made me the National General Secretary. Thank you very much for this honour.

‘Continue your methods to increase the party’s support base’
Maurya further wrote in the letter, ‘I continued the process of increasing the party’s support base in my own way. In the same sequence, when I tried to bring back the tribals, Dalits and backward classes by awakening and alerting them, some small and big leaders of the party tried to frustrate this edge by saying, ‘This is Maurya ji’s personal statement’. I didn’t take it otherwise. Even when I attacked hypocrisy and ostentation, the same people were seen saying similar things again. During this campaign, I was also given orders to shoot, kill, behead with a sword, cut my tongue, cut off my nose and ears and chop off my hands. There were several deadly attacks, but he continued with his campaign without worrying about his safety.

‘How can any statement of the National General Secretary be personal?’
It was surprising when instead of remaining silent, the senior party leader tried to break the morale of the workers by saying ‘Maurya ji’s personal statement’. I could not understand that I am among a National General Secretary, whose every statement becomes a personal statement and there are some National General Secretaries and leaders of the party whose every statement becomes a personal statement. It is beyond comprehension how among officials of the same level, some make personal statements and some make party statements.
