‘Walking 8 km in 52 degree Celsius, arrangements…’, the story of Hajis who went on Haj from UP

Due to severe heat in Saudi Arabia, the temperature has crossed 52 degrees Celsius. There, five hundred and fifty pilgrims have died during their journey on foot from Arafat to Muzdanifa. On hearing the news of the death of pilgrims due to heat, the family members of the pilgrims who had gone for Haj from India were shocked. They immediately called to enquire about their well-being. In a conversation with Amar Ujala, the pilgrims described the scene of death due to heat.

111 Haj pilgrims had left from Jhansi district to perform the duty of Haj. Wahvuddin, a resident of Mission Compound, who had gone for Haj, told that the condition of the pilgrims deteriorated after travelling seven to eight kilometres on foot in 52 degrees Celsius. During this, hundreds of pilgrims fell unconscious due to lack of proper arrangements. Many of them died on the spot and many died before reaching the hospital.

Shakeel Ahmed, a resident of Kasai Mandi who went for Hajj, said that the condition of the pilgrims deteriorated after travelling about eight kilometres on foot in the scorching heat. During this time, the pilgrims died due to lack of adequate arrangements on the way. However, none of these pilgrims are from Jhansi city. Seeing the scene of the dead bodies of the pilgrims caused restlessness and panic in the heart.
