The Government of India has changed the rules for making Birth Certificate. Along with this, the last date for change has also been announced. If any person does not have a birth certificate or there is any mistake in it, then the said person can get it made or update it till 27 April 2026. If the birth certificate is not made or updated by 27 April 2026, then it cannot be amended later.

Why is Birth Certificate important?

Which certifies the date, place and parents’ information of his birth. Apart from this, birth certificate is also mandatory for government schemes and benefits. It is an important document for various government schemes, pension, scholarship. At the same time, birth certificate is also an important document for passport and visa application.

Why did the government change the rules of Birth Certificate?

Earlier, the birth certificate could be made up to 15 years of birth. But now the government has removed this age limit. Earlier the government had fixed the date for updating the birth certificate as 31 December 2024. Which has now been extended to 27 April 2026. If the birth certificate is not made or updated by 27 April 2026, then it is not possible to amend it later.

How to apply for a new Birth Certificate?

To get a new birth certificate, you can apply online by visiting the official website of the Government of India https://dc.crsorgi.gov.in/crs.

For offline application, you have to go to your local municipal corporation office or the concerned government office with the child’s birth certificate (such as hospital birth record), parents’ identity card (Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID), proof of address (ration card, electricity bill, bank statement).
