Bangladesh’s interim government chief Mohammad Yunus is currently on a visit to China. Mohammad Yunus arrived in Beijing on March 26 on his four-day visit. Yunus has signed nine important agreements with the Chinese government. Bangladesh has talked about giving the Teesta project to China. This has been an important issue between the two countries. India was the first choice of the former Hasina government for this project, but Yunus has welcomed China in this project. At the same time, Bangladesh has also supported Beijing on the Taiwan issue. This is a blow to America along with Taiwan. America has emphasized on the sovereignty of Taiwan.
Mohammad Yunus met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Friday. After this, many important things have been said in the joint statement of both the countries. In the statement, Bangladesh has supported the One China Policy. Both the countries have agreed to start talks on the Free Trade Agreement. Along with this, there is also agreement on promoting the Belt and Road and working together on industrial and supply chains.
Bangladesh in China’s camp!
According to The Hindu report, Bangladesh has asked China to join the Teesta River project. Both the countries have also agreed to share information related to the water of the Yarlung Zangbo-Jamuna (Brahmaputra) river. Bangladesh has supported all those issues of China, which are very important for China. Bangladesh supported the One China Policy and said that Taiwan is a part of China. This shows that Bangladesh has decided to support China by ignoring America and India.
In the joint statement, China has said that Beijing follows the principle of not interfering in the internal affairs of other countries. It respects the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bangladesh. China will also help Bangladesh in protecting its national independence and will continue to respect the path of development chosen by the people of Bangladesh.
The statement said that Bangladesh has invited Chinese companies for the Mongla Port Facilities Modernization and Expansion Project. Apart from this, both the countries will develop the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone (CEIZ) in Chittagong. Both the countries have also agreed to increase cooperation in the maritime sphere.
