A nose pin has proved to be a crucial clue for police probing the death of a woman in Delhi. The woman’s body was found in a drain about a month ago. Police have arrested the woman’s 20-year-old husband and businessman Anil Kumar. He is suspected to have killed the woman and dumped the body in the drain.

The body, wrapped in a sheet and tied with a stone and a sack of cement, was found in a drain in Delhi on March 15. Police identified the woman through her nose pin – which helped them solve the murder mystery.

Police found the nose pin in a jewellery store in south Delhi and on checking the records, found that the nose pin was purchased by Delhi-based property dealer Anil Kumar, who lived in a farmhouse in Gurugram. The bill was issued in his name.

The woman has been identified as 47-year-old Seema Singh

The police then contacted Mr Kumar and found out that Seema Singh was his wife. When the officers requested to speak to him, Mr Kumar said she had left for Vrindavan without a phone. This raised suspicion.

The police then reached Mr Kumar’s office in Dwarka, where they found his mother-in-law’s number in a diary. On contacting the family, Ms Singh’s sister Babita told them that she had not spoken to him since March 11. The family was equally worried.

Babita told the police that when she contacted Mr Kumar, he told her that Seema was in Jaipur and was in no mood to talk. She said he had assured her that he would make her talk to him whenever she felt better. This continued for several days. Ms Singh’s family said they wanted to approach the police, but had to wait because of Mr Kumar’s assurance.

On April 1, the family was called to identify a woman’s body. And they found that it was the woman. A day later, her elder son also identified the body as his mother. The family, citing the post-mortem report, said Ms Singh was strangled to death. They also claimed that only the couple – Mr Kumar and Ms Singh – had the keys to their Dwarka home. Mr Kumar and his security guard Shivshankar have been arrested.
