Cabinet sub-committee formed before Panchayat elections in Uttarakhand
Actually the government wanted to extend the tenure of administrators by making changes in the Panchayati Raj Act. But the Governor sent the ordinance back. Now the government is facing a double challenge. On the one hand, the constitutional crisis has to be dealt with. On the other hand, preparations have to be made for the upcoming Panchayat elections.
It is not possible to conduct Panchayat elections without OBC reservation. In such a situation, the government wants to decide the reservation on the basis of the report of the Verma Commission. This is the reason why the Cabinet Committee will submit its recommendations to the government in 15 days regarding this report.
The first meeting will be held on this day
It is worth noting that the tenure of administrators ended on 28 May in Gram Panchayats, on 30 May in Kshetra Panchayats and on 1 June in Zila Panchayats. Now, until the ordinance is approved, neither new administrators can be appointed nor the election process can be started. In such a situation, the meeting of 7 June is considered to give direction to the Panchayat system of the state.
