The path has been cleared for the establishment of an integrated check post at Banbasa in Champawat district of Uttarakhand on the India-Nepal border. The Central Government has approved a proposal to allocate 34 hectares of forest land to the Land Ports Authority in Banbasa.

The construction of this check post will help increase trade with neighboring Nepal. It will also play a crucial role in facilitating border movement and strengthening security. Integrated offices for the police, ITBP, CBI, and other security agencies will also be located there.

The Central Government is currently developing land ports near international borders for trade, movement, and border security. In this regard, the decision has been made to establish an integrated check post at Banbasa in Champawat on the India-Nepal border.

The Land Ports Authority had previously identified land at the Zero Point for this purpose. The land acquisition process was initiated, but the project was hindered by the large area of forest land falling within its jurisdiction. Some trees also had to be felled there. However, land has been earmarked for new plantations in its place.

This issue also came up in a meeting of the high-powered committee of the regional office of the Union Ministry of Forest, Environment and Climate Change. The committee previously granted permission for the first phase of work. It also gave in-principle approval for the transfer of 34 hectares of reserved forest land to the Land Port Authority.

The ministry has now finalized this. This has paved the way for the establishment of an integrated checkpoint for all security forces in Banbasa. This checkpoint will not only check people crossing the border but will also accelerate trade activities.
