Uttarakhand: BJP MLA accused of recommending a job for his nephew; letter goes viral on social media

Questions have once again arisen regarding government jobs in Uttarakhand. The Uttarakhand Unemployed Association has leveled serious allegations against the state’s recruitment process. The association claims that some influential people within the government machinery are depriving qualified youth of their rights.

BJP MLA Recommends Appointment of Nephew

Indeed, a letter circulating on social media is attributed to BJP MLA Suresh Chauhan. The association alleges that the MLA, ignoring regulations, recommended the appointment of his own nephew, Akash Chauhan. It is reported that Akash Chauhan was subsequently appointed to the post of Volunteer Junior Engineer (Civil) through the Public Distribution System (PDR) at the District Disaster Management Authority, Uttarkashi.

Unemployed Association Opens Front

Ram Kandwal, President of the Unemployed Association, says that this entire matter raises questions about the recruitment process. The association claims that only one application was received for this recruitment on June 19, 2025, and that candidate was appointed. This disclosure was made by the Unemployed Association through an RTI.

The Unemployed Association demanded answers from the concerned officials

The association has also demanded answers from the administration and relevant officials as to how the District Disaster Management Authority recruited junior engineers through the PRD without conducting interviews. Ram Kandwal has also accused District Youth Welfare Officer Vijay Pratap Bhandari of corruption and demanded his removal from his post. The Unemployed Association says that if this matter is not investigated impartially, a movement will be launched across the state.

The MLA called the allegations baseless

However, the Khabar Uttarakhand team tried to obtain BJP MLA Suresh Chauhan’s side of the story. In the conversation, the MLA dismissed these allegations as baseless and said that such accusations are an attempt to tarnish his image.
