President Draupadi Murmu wishes young Uttarakhand a golden future, addresses special session of the Legislative Assembly

President Draupadi Murmu arrived in Dehradun to attend a special session of the Legislative Assembly, where she praised the Uttarakhand government’s efforts toward women empowerment.
President Draupadi Murmu attended the special session of the Legislative Assembly. In her address, President Draupadi Murmu said, “On the historic occasion of the silver jubilee of the establishment of the state of Uttarakhand, I am delighted to be among you all in this temple of democracy, in this special session of the Legislative Assembly. On this occasion, I congratulate the former and current members of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly and all the residents of the state.”
The people of Uttarakhand have achieved impressive development milestones: President
The President stated that during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure as Prime Minister, the state was established in November 2000, in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Uttarakhand, with a vision for better governance and balanced development. It is a matter of great satisfaction that during the past 25 years, the people of Uttarakhand have achieved impressive development milestones.”
President speaks of progress in infrastructure development
President Murmu further stated that the state has made commendable progress in the areas of environment, energy, tourism, healthcare, and education. Along with digital and physical connectivity, infrastructure development has also seen progress. She stated that, driven by comprehensive development efforts, the state has improved on several parameters of the Human Development Index.
President Praises Women Empowerment Efforts
The President stated, “I am pleased to note that literacy has increased in the state, women’s education has expanded, maternal and infant mortality rates have declined, and efforts are being made to make health services accessible.” The President also commended the efforts being made towards women’s empowerment.
The President stated that women’s empowerment efforts will continue the glorious legacy of extraordinary women like Sushila Baluni, Bachendri Pal, Gaura Devi, Radha Bhatt, and Vandana Kataria. President Draupadi Murmu further said in her address that the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly has enhanced its pride by appointing Ritu Khanduri Bhushan as the first woman Speaker of the State Assembly. “I would like the number of women in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly to increase through the active efforts of all stakeholders.”
The names of the Kumaon and Garhwal Regiments reflect a tradition of bravery: President
The President said that traditions of spirituality and bravery have always flowed from this Devbhoomi of Uttarakhand. This sacred land of India has been the abode of many sages and saints. The names of the Kumaon Regiment and the Garhwal Regiment itself reflect this tradition of bravery. The youth here demonstrate enthusiasm for protecting the motherland by serving in the Indian Army.
The President further stated that this tradition of bravery in Uttarakhand is a matter of pride for all citizens. Many public servants from Uttarakhand have made significant contributions to strengthening India’s democratic tradition. He stated that the founding fathers of our Constitution had made a provision under Article 44 of the Constitution for the creation of a “Uniform Civil Code for citizens.”
The President praised the implementation of the UCC in Uttarakhand
The President said that the policy guidelines of the founding fathers of the Constitution I commend the members of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly for their work in implementing the UCC Bill in accordance with the Constitution. I am informed that over 550 bills have been passed in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. These bills include the Uttarakhand Lokayukta Bill, the Uttarakhand Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Bill, and the Anti-Copying Bill. I commend all the MLAs, past and present, for passing such bills inspired by transparency, morality, and social justice.
The President further stated that Uttarakhand’s 25-year journey of development has been possible only due to the contributions of the MLAs. I hope that you will continue to actively express the aspirations of the people. I am confident that with the spirit of ‘Nation First,’ you will rapidly take the state and the country forward on the path of development.
