Uttar Pradesh : 5 arrested for taking donations by creating fake website of Ram temple
Lucknow : The cyber cell of Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested five people for creating a fake website in the name of Ram Janmabhoomi Trust and duping innocents of crores of rupees.
Ashish Gupta, Naveen Kumar, Sumit Kumar, Amit Jha and Suraj Gupta, residents of New Delhi were arrested from GB Nagar.
The police have also recovered mobile phones, SIM cards and Aadhar cards from their possession.
The FIR was first lodged on 30 January by Anil Kumar Mishra, a member of the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust in Ayodhya, at the Ram Janmabhoomi police station.
Mishra had alleged that a fake website was created similar to the original website and it also contained a QR code for financial donations.
The code was registered in the name of one Tejveer Singh. The matter was transferred to the cyber cell of Uttar Pradesh Police last month.
Superintendent of Police Cyber Cell Triveni Singh said that the gang was operating from Bihar and a team would be sent soon to arrest its other members. Singh said, we worked on the case using electronic evidence including data analytics.
The donations of the devotees for the Ram temple were going directly into the accounts of the accused.
