This is a very serious and disturbing matter. Additional Solicitor General Madhavi Divan, appearing for the ED, told a bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and MR Shah that the Chandra father-son duo has deputed their officers outside the jail to take their instructions to the outside world. The court has ordered the Delhi Police Commissioner to personally investigate the misdeeds of the Tihar Jail personnel and submit their report within four weeks.

In a surprising revelation in the Supreme Court, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said it has unearthed a secret underground office here run by erstwhile Unitech founder Ramesh Chandra and his sons – Sanjay Chandra and Ajay Chandra – have been granted parole or bail. Visited it during his stay. “We have recovered hundreds of sale documents, hundreds of digital signatures and several computers containing sensitive information about their properties in India and abroad from the office,” Dewan said.

He said the probe agency has filed two status reports in a sealed cover in the court and has provisionally attached Unitech Limited’s assets worth Rs 600 crore located in India and abroad. After hearing the facts revealed in the investigation, the Supreme Court ordered the transfer of former Unitech promoters Sanjay Chandra and Ajay Chandra from Tihar Jail in Delhi to Arthur Road Jail and Taloja Jail in Mumbai and asked the Delhi Police Commissioner to take up the matter. Immediately initiate a personal inquiry into the conduct of the Tihar Jail officials regarding complicity in the matter and submit the report.
