Sourav Ganguly said on India’s flop show in T20 World Cup 2021 – Team India’s worst performance

Former Indian team captain and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has termed his first reaction on the performance of the Indian team in the recently concluded T20 World Cup. Ganguly said that I have not seen a worse performance of Team India in the last 4 to 5 years. He clearly said that the Indian team was seen here under pressure and which could only play 15 percent of its potential.

Team India was out in its very first round of the World Cup played in UAE this time. She was a strong contender for the game in this tournament but she crashed out from the opening round of the tournament after losing her first two matches against Pakistan and New Zealand in the Super 12 group stage. This was the first time after the year 2012, when Team India was eliminated in the World Cup tournament before reaching the knockout stage.

The experts had high hopes from the team led by Virat Kohli. But when the team fell face to face in the tournament, it has also faced a lot of criticism. Ganguly also did not hesitate to term this performance of the team as ‘worst’.

Ganguly had come to participate in famous sports journalist Boria Majumdar’s special show ‘Backstage with Boria’. Here he was asked. After all, what is the reason that India has been showing such a great game in the bilateral series, yet it got out before reaching the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.

Sourav Ganguly said, ‘To be honest, the Indian team was fantastic in 2017 and 2019. In the 2017 Champions Trophy, when we lost to Pakistan at the Oval, I was a commentator. And after that in the 2019 World Cup in England itself, we were exceptional throughout the tournament. We went on beating everyone and then lost to New Zealand in the semi-finals. One bad day spoils the whole two months of hard work.

After this, while talking about this World Cup, Ganguly said, ‘I am a little disappointed with the way we played in this World Cup. I think we have seen the worst performance of the Indian team in the last 4 or 5 years.

Although the 49-year-old former captain did not point fingers at any one thing on India’s poor performance in the tournament, he said that sometimes teams do not click on the spot in big tournaments. He said, ‘I felt as if our team could play only 15 percent of its potential.

He said, ‘I don’t know what was the reason behind it but I just felt that the team did not play with full freedom. Sometimes it happens in big tournaments, you stop and when I saw them play against Pakistan and New Zealand, this team was seen playing only 15 percent of its capacity.
