‘Get us through Russia…’: Students trapped in Sumi, Ukraine pleaded with the Indian government

About 500 Indian students are stranded in Sumi, a town in eastern Ukraine just two hours from the Russian border, and are pleading for help from the Indian government. In fact, Indians are being evacuated from western Ukraine by the Indian government and these students are trapped in eastern Ukraine. According to these students, they cannot reach western Ukraine from eastern Ukraine. In such a situation, the Government of India should remove them from the board of Russia.
Five girl students have sent a video to NDTV. In the video, a student is heard saying that we are requesting the Indian Embassy to save us at the earliest. Anju Tojo, a final year student of Sumy Medical University, said that it is impossible and very dangerous for us to travel to the western border of Ukraine. The only option is the Russian border. That’s why I request the Indian Embassy in Moscow to get us out of there. According to the girl students, road travel is not completely safe. Rail tracks in Sumi are damaged. There are landmines from Sumi to Kyiv.
Another student said, “We are spending our nights in the bunker built in the college. It is very cold there. There is shelling and attacks. Even civilians are armed with weapons. There is a shortage of food and water.
Significantly, under “Mission Ganga”, Indians trapped in Ukraine are being evacuated. India will operate 26 flights to evacuate citizens in the next three days. All these aircraft will take off from countries that share a border with Ukraine in the west.
