Preparations for issuing a fresh voter list across the country, the Election Commission gave guidelines

The Election Commission is preparing to issue a fresh voter list across the country. There is a plan to eliminate uniformity, duplication and discrepancies in identical photographs in the electoral rolls. Under this, guidelines have been issued to the states and union territories. It also issued standard operating procedures for managing and modifying entries with similar demographics and photo-similar entries. Under this, it has been said that they should get their voter lists verified on the basis of demographics and photo.
This process will be completed by January 1, 2023. According to the order, all the states will help in rectifying the discrepancies in the identity cards with identical photographs of voters at different places and in the photo. According to the SOP issued by the Election Commission, the states will also have to train the concerned staff of the Election Commissions for effective implementation of their process. In this sequence, in Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand and UP, population and voter ID cards with the same photo will be checked.
App and online help tips
For the lists, the government has also suggested the states and union territories to take the help of Guruda App and the Commission’s online platform Aeronet. In this, the applications of Form 7 and 8 will be checked through Guruda. After this, there will be an investigation from the block to the level of the District Election Officer. In this, the list will be made public on IRONET after verifying all the parameters, on which the final decision will be taken by the Returning Officer.
