Mayawati’s taunt on Kharge’s election as Congress President, said – ‘It has been the history of Congress to make Dalits ‘scapegoats’ in bad times.

A day after Mallikarjun Kharge took over as Congress president, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Thursday accused the 137-year-old party of remembering Dalits in their worst times and making them “scapegoats”. Kharge (80), a Dalit leader from Karnataka, became the first non-Gandhi Congress president in 24 years, defeating 66-year-old Shashi Tharoor in the historic election held four days ago for the party president’s post.

BSP supremo Mayawati said in a series of tweets, ‘The history of Congress is a witness that they have always neglected/disdained the messiah of the downtrodden and downtrodden, Param Pujya Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and his society. This party does not remember the safety and honor of Dalits in their good days, but makes them scapegoats in bad days.

Mayawati said, “The Congress party mostly remembers the non-Dalits in the long run of its good days and keeping the Dalits ahead in its bad days like the present. Is this not deceit and pseudo politics? People ask, is this the real love of the Congress for Dalits?

Kharge will take charge on October 26

Kharge, considered a confidant of the Gandhi family, will take over as Congress President on October 26. Kharge is going to succeed Sonia Gandhi who led the Congress for nearly two decades. Kharge defeated his rival Shashi Tharoor by a margin of 6,825 votes. Kharge got 7,897 votes and Tharoor got 1,072 votes.

PM Modi, Rahul, Sonia congratulate Kharge

Shortly after Kharge’s official announcement of victory, outgoing party president Sonia Gandhi and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reached his residence and congratulated him. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and several other leaders also congratulated Kharge.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Kharge. In a tweet, he said, “My best wishes to Mallikarjun Kharge ji for his new role as Congress President. May his tenure be fruitful ahead.”
