Uttar Pradesh : Azam Khan sentenced to three years for giving provocative speech, SP leader gets bail

SP leader Azam Khan has been sentenced to three years imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs. However, after the sentencing, the court granted bail to Azam Khan.

Azam Khan was the SP-BSP alliance candidate from Rampur parliamentary seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He had addressed a public meeting in Khatanagaria village of Milak Kotwali area during his election campaign in April 2019.

It was alleged that he had given provocative speeches about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the then District Magistrate Anjaneya Kumar Singh. The video of Azam Khan’s speech went viral. In this case, the report of the case was lodged at Milak Kotwali on behalf of Anil Kumar Chauhan, in-charge of the video observation team.

After the investigation, the police filed the charge sheet in the court. The matter has been heard in the court of MP-MLA (Magistrate Trial) Nishant Mann. Azam Khan reached the court on Thursday at around 2 pm. The court convicted him under IPC sections 153-A, 505-A and 125 Representation of the People Act.

After being convicted, Azam Khan was taken into the custody of the court. Around 4.30 pm, the court gave its verdict, in which he was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment and to pay a fine of six thousand rupees. After this Azam Khan was granted bail. Azam Khan’s legislature may be in danger after being sentenced to three years. Because in this case the order of the Supreme Court is that if the MPs and MLAs have been sentenced to more than 2 years in any case, then their membership will be canceled.
