Children must be taught the difference between good and bad touch: CJI

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said on Saturday that sexual abuse of children is a hidden problem as there is a culture of silence in our country. Therefore, the government should encourage families to report abuse, even if the perpetrator is a family member.

Speaking at a two-day national event on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, the CJI said it was an unfortunate fact that the criminal justice system functions in a manner which sometimes minimizes the trauma of the victims. The CJI said, “The long-lasting implications of child sexual abuse make it imperative for the State and other stakeholders to create awareness about prevention of child sexual abuse and its timely detection and remedies available in law.
