IBA Women’s World Championship begins in Delhi from March 15
The IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships 2023 will be held in New Delhi from March 15 to 31. India is set to host the biennial championship for the third time in the tournament’s history.
Since its inception in 2001, the prestigious global championship has been held in India twice before, in 2006 and 2018. Earlier also it was organized in New Delhi only. Apart from this, India hosted the Women’s Youth World Championship in the year 2017 in Guwahati.
Indian Boxing Federation President Ajay Singh said, ‘The countdown has begun for one of the biggest boxing competitions in the world to be held in the year 2023. The World Championships have been a testimony to the unparalleled credentials of Indian boxing.
We look forward to hosting it successfully and giving a great experience to all the boxers coming to India. In partnership with the IBA team, we are confident that the World Championships will help promote boxing globally.
We are thrilled that Indian boxers will once again make a mark on the global stage and India’s dominance will be on display at the World Championships.
Competition will be held in 12 weight categories
The world championship will be held in 12 weight categories, 48kg, 50kg, 52kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63kg, 66kg, 70kg, 75kg, 81kg and plus 81kg. Registration for this will start soon. The BFI and IBA are also considering introducing a historic bout review system in the championship.
