Barelal released from Pakistan after waiting for years

Barelal tribal, a mentally challenged youth resident of Pati Sheeshpur village of Nohta police station area, accidentally reached Pakistan two years ago. After whose information came to the fore, the government started an effort to bring him back and on Saturday that effort was successful when Barelal reached his house. After long efforts and intervention of the Ministry of External Affairs, he was brought from Pakistan to Bagha border and then brought to his village by the police. Seeing Barelal, tears came from the eyes of his relatives.

It is noteworthy that Prashant Bendham, another youth including Barelal tribal, was arrested on 14 November 2019 from Bahawalpur, Pakistan. The Pakistani side claimed that Bendham and Barelal tribals were arrested by a patrol party of Yajman police while illegally entering Pakistan from the Cholistan area in Bahawalpur district. After which this news spread like smoke in the whole country, the relatives had told the youth caught in Pakistan as their son. The family members also lodged a missing report of Barelal at Nohta police station.

After the confirmation of Barelal’s presence in Pakistan, the Indian government started trying to bring back both the youths. Efforts were initiated to bring back the information from Barelal’s family by contacting father Subbi Adivasi, mother Lakshmi Bai and brother Padam Adivasi.

Relatives told that Barelal was being treated at Medical College Jabalpur and he used to run away from home many times without informing him. The last time he left his house in 2017 and did not return for several days, his family members lodged a missing report at Nohta police station, after which the police started looking for him.

Keeping its facts firmly in the midst of all this, the Government of India was successful in getting Barelal to return home, but whether Prashant, the youth caught with him, was returned to India or not, it has not been confirmed yet. All necessary action was taken to take Barelal’s relatives and constable of Nohta police station and handed over Barelal to relatives through Bagha border.
