20 dead, 90 injured in clash between army and Taliban fighters

At least 20 people have been killed and 90 others injured in clashes between the military and Taliban fighters over the past four days in the city of Herat and its outskirts in Afghanistan. In addition to civilians, at least 16 soldiers have been killed in clashes between the army and Taliban fighters.

According to media reports, Taliban fighters had captured the outskirts of Herat. 16 of the 17 districts in the northwestern province of Herat are currently under Taliban control.
Incidents of violence are on the rise as tensions between the military and the Taliban escalate amid the withdrawal of international troops from Afghanistan. The Taliban have captured large parts of the countryside and intensified attacks targeting major cities.
