The government wants to get the Tribunal Reforms Bill, 2021 passed in the lower house despite the constant uproar by the opposition parties. Apart from this bill, the Government makes efforts to amend the Cinematograph Act 1952, the Customs Act, 1962, the Airport Authority of India Act 1994, the Trade Marks Act, 1999 and the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Act, 2001 and some other Acts to amend more bills. In addition, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai is to make a statement regarding the status of implementation of the recommendations and observations contained in the 228th Report of the Standing Committee on Home Affairs on the action taken by the Government on the recommendations. The comments contained in the 222nd Report of the Committee on Management of the Deteriorating Traffic Situation in Delhi relating to the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Minister of State Ajay Kumar are to make a statement regarding the status of implementation of the recommendations contained in the 224th Report. Statement of the Standing Committee on Home Affairs (2020-2021) on Demands for Grants related to the Ministry of Home Affairs is also to be given.

Parliament’s monsoon session was disrupted thrice on Monday due to incessant protests by the opposition, who are targeting the government over a range of issues including the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, agricultural law and the Pegasus snooping controversy.
Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha on Monday passed the General Insurance Business (Nationalisation) Amendment Bill, which seeks to amend the country’s general insurance law and allow the government to sell its stake in state-run insurance corporations.

Parliament has been able to run for only 18 hours out of the total 107 hours scheduled so far in the monsoon session that ends on August 13 due to continued disruption by the opposition on issues including espionage and agricultural laws.

This has caused a loss of more than Rs 133 crore to the taxpayers. Meanwhile, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have worked for only 13 per cent and 21 per cent of their total scheduled time till last week.
