Border Roads Organization begins celebrations on the occasion of 75 years of independence

The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has started the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations on the occasion of 75 years of India’s independence. Keeping its importance in mind, BRO is organizing welfare and patriotic related activities/programmes across the country. Under these events, 75 medical camps are being organized, plantation drives are being conducted at 75 places and 75 school dialogues are being organized to motivate the children through talks and lectures. The main event will be on Independence Day, when the national flag will be hoisted at the highest 75 passes of India.

The BRO honored the gallantry awards and war heroes at Pipalkot and Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand and Chandmari in Sikkim on August 7, 2021. In the ‘Project Diamond’ function organized by BRO at Pithoragarh, citations were presented to the near relatives of Shaurya Chakra winners, EEM Prem Singh, Naik Chandra Singh, Driver Ram Singh and DME Damar Bahadur. In a separate function organized at Pipalkot, the families of Kirti Chakra winner Major Pritam Singh Kunwar, Shaurya Chakra winner (posthumous) Lance Naik Raghubir Singh and Shaurya Chakra winner Naib Subedar Surendra Singh were honored under ‘Project Shivalik’ of BRO.

Sikkim’s Forest and Environment Minister Karma Lode Bhutia also attended a felicitation function organized by Swastik, a project of BRO at Chandmari, Sikkim. He felicitated three Shaurya Chakra winners from Sikkim – Subedar Honorary Captain Kishore Rai, Naik Dhan Bahadur Chhetri and Para Trooper Sonam Tshering Tamang. Local people of the state who had registered themselves on the online gallantry award portal were also honoured. Prominent personalities of the state were present in all the programmes. Inspirational dialogues and heroic stories of war heroes were also presented in the program.
