“Major accident was averted”: Pakistani terrorist planning to attack on Jammu and Kashmir highway killed
A major terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir was averted when security forces killed a Pakistani terrorist in a 15-hour-long encounter on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. According to the police, a large quantity of weapons including rocket launchers have been recovered from the encounter site. The encounter started when two terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on a BSF convoy on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Kulgam district on Thursday. One security force personnel and two civilians were injured in the encounter.
According to officials, the terrorists also succeeded in shooting down two drones used by the police during this period. Kashmir IG Police Vijay Kumar said, ‘A big tragedy has been averted. The terrorists were planning a major attack on the National Highway before the Independence Day.

Kumar said the police had received inputs that terrorists were planning an attack on the Baramulla-Srinagar road or Qazigund-Pantha Chowk. In such a situation, the police and security forces were on alert. This shows how strong the response of the security forces was. Retaliation was taken and the terrorists were not given a chance to escape. Police have recovered a large quantity of weapons including rocket launchers. One terrorist, whose identity has not been revealed, has been killed while another managed to escape.
