Vodafone India lost 42.8 lakh subscribers in June, Airtel, Jio subscribers increased

Troubled Vodafone Idea Ltd. (VIL) lost 42.8 lakh mobile subscribers in June. Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel benefited from this.

According to data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Reliance Jio’s subscriber base increased by 54.6 lakh in June. At the same time, the subscriber count of Bharti Airtel increased by 38.1 lakh.

According to the data, Vodafone Idea’s subscriber base declined by 4.28 lakh to 273 million in the month under review. This has added to the woes of the debt-ridden telecom company, which is struggling to survive in the market.

In June, the number of mobile subscribers of Reliance Jio increased by 54.6 lakh to 436 million. The Mukesh Ambani-led telecom company was also at the forefront of adding wireline connections. The company added 1.87 lakh new customers in the wireline category during the month.

Bharti Airtel’s mobile subscriber base increased by 38.1 lakh to 352 million in June.
According to the data, the total phone subscribers in the country grew by 0.34 percent on a monthly basis to 1202 million by the end of June, 2021. During this period, the number of phone subscribers increased in urban areas, while there was a slight decline in connections in rural areas.

TRAI said, “Based on the information received from 440 operators in the month of June, the number of broadband subscribers has increased to 79.27 million, from 78.02 million at the end of May.” There was an increase of 1.60 percent on a monthly basis.
The top five service providers have a market share of 98.7 per cent in the broadband market.

These include Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. (43.99 crore), Bharti Airtel (19.71 crore), Vodafone Idea (12.14 crore), BSNL (2.26 crore) and Atria Convergence (19.1 lakh).
TRAI’s subscriber card for the month of June comes at a time when Vodafone Idea, one of the three private sector telcos, is fighting for its existence.
