England pacer Wood ruled out of third Test against India

England pacer Mark Wood has been ruled out of the third Test against India at Headingley here due to a shoulder injury. The England and Cricket Board (ECB) said on Monday that Wood is not fit to play in the third Test.

The ECB issued a statement saying, Wood will be with the team in Leeds and will be in rehabilitation. His injury status will be seen after the third Test is over.

Wood, who took a five-wicket haul in the second Test at Lord’s, was injured while attempting to block a boundary off Rishabh Pant’s shot.

He walked off the field on the fourth day after the physio’s examination. However, on the final day, Wood came to the ground and bowled for four overs.

Apart from Wood, many important England players such as Ollie Stone, Ben Stokes, Stuart Broad and Jofra Archer have not been included in the Test series due to various reasons.
Wood’s absence means that Shakib Mahmood will make his Test debut from the next match. However, Craig Overtone is also in the running to be in the XI.

The third test match between India and England is to start from Wednesday. India lead 1-0 in the five-match Test series.
