Brazil and Argentina’s World Cup tournament postponed, 3 players suspended for violating Corona protocol
The World Cup semi-final match between Brazil and Argentina had to be postponed in dramatic circumstances after local health officials came to the ground to oust three players who did not follow the coronavirus protocol. Lionel Messi of Argentina and Neymar of Brazil were also playing in the match. The match had to be stopped in the seventh minute when both the teams were tied goalless. There was also a lot of debate between players, coaches, football officials and local officials. Brazil’s health department says that three players from Argentina settled in England should have been in isolation but they were playing matches. Brazil’s health agency president Antonio Barra Torres said four Argentine players would be fined and sent back for breaking Brazil’s coronavirus protocol. All four were asked to live in isolation but had come to play three matches. Aston did not want Villa’s Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia and Tottenham’s Giovanni Lo Celso and Cristian Romero to miss out on Premier League internationals as they would have to be in isolation for ten days upon their return. Along with this, Brazil’s segregation rules added to the trouble.
