Forest division strict on the arbitrariness of heli companies in Kedar Valley
Kedarnath Wildlife Division has taken a tough stand on the arbitrariness of helicopter companies in Kedar Valley. The divisional officers have sought daily flight, sound and altitude records from helicopter companies. The helicopter has been fixed a maximum of 300 rounds (to and fro) per day. Action will be taken against the concerned heli company for making more rounds than this.
For Kedarnath, rules and regulations are being kept in abeyance by helicopter companies in helicopter flight. The loud sound of the helicopter when flying below the stipulated altitude 600 meters is causing damage to the rare wildlife, flora and fauna migrating in the very sensitive area. On the complaint of the Horse-Mule Association, Kedarnath Wildlife Division has asked helicopter companies for the daily shuttle, sound, altitude data of the helicopter.
Division’s DFO Amit Kanwar said that complaints have been received that helicopters are making more than 500 rounds instead of the prescribed 300 rounds per day. The flight altitude is also being kept below 600 meters. Answer has been sought from Heli companies in this regard. If the rules are ignored, then action will be taken against the company concerned. On behalf of the division, data regarding helicopter flight is also being collected from the monitoring station at Bhimbali.
