Nawab Malik said on Kangana’s statement of ‘freedom in begging’ – Government should arrest, take back Padma Shri award
After Congress, Maharashtra government minister Nawab Malik has targeted actress Kangana Ranaut for her statement that ‘India will get freedom by begging’. Nawab Malik has said that the Padma Shri award should be withdrawn after arresting Kangana Ranaut. In a 24-second clip that went viral on social media, Ranaut can be heard saying, “Not freedom in 1947, but begging, and the freedom we got in 2014.”
Nawab Malik said, the people who gave Padma Shri have furthered them that independence was achieved in 2014, freedom was given in 1947 by begging. This is an insult to many freedom fighters from Gandhiji. We strongly condemn the statement made by Kangana. The way it is being said that the independence of 1947 was given in begging, we feel that the freedom fighters have been insulted. The central government should register a case against him and take back the Padma Shri from him.
Earlier, senior Congress leader Anand Sharma had said, ‘Kangana Ranaut’s statement is an insult not only to freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru and Sardar Patel, but also to the sacrifices of revolutionaries like Sardar Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad.’ He also said, ‘The Prime Minister should break his silence and tell the country whether he supports Kangana Ranaut’s opinion. If they do not, then the government should take appropriate legal action against such people.
Reacting to Kangana’s remarks, Congress spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh said, “I demand that Kangana Ranaut should apologize to all the countrymen for her statement as it has insulted our freedom movement and freedom fighters.” The Government of India should withdraw the Padma Shri award from a woman who has insulted Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Subhash Chandra Bose, Pandit Nehru, Sardar Bhagat Singh. Giving Padma Shri to such people means that the government is promoting such people.
