Uttarakhand / Haldwani : Road stuck between two departments
The work of road improvement from Mangalpadav to Kathgodam has been caught between the tussle between the Public Works Department and NHAI. Because of this this road is not being built. People are facing a lot of trouble due to non-construction of roads. The Public Works Department has sought Rs 14.40 crore from NHAI for the maintenance work. On the other hand, NHAI has raised an objection stating the budget is more.
The road from Teenpani to Kathgodam is owned by NHAI. On the other hand, the ownership of the road from Teenpani to Nariman intersection via Gaulapar was with the Public Works Department. The Public Works Department handed over its ownership to NHAI last year. Lonvi had sought ownership from NHAI from Teenpani to Kathgodam. Before transferring the road, Rs 14.40 crore was also sought for one-time maintenance work.
NHAI refused to give this much budget, raising six objections to this budget. The Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department has sent a letter to the NHAI Headquarters. It has been said in the letter that the investigation was done on behalf of Lonvi with the help of FWD technology. In the investigation it was found that 5 cm DBM and 3 cm BC will be put in the road. Only then the road will last a long time. It has also been said that NHAI has not spent even a single rupee in the maintenance work on this road since December 22, 2014. With this, Rs 14.40 crore has been demanded for one-time maintenance. Due to the tussle between the two departments, this road could not be built. Due to this, tourists as well as local residents are facing a lot of trouble.
