Including 61 gazetted officers, 247 corrupt officers and employees have been behind bars in Uttarakhand so far.
How much the officials in Uttarakhand are immersed in the quagmire of corruption, it can be gauged from the statistics of Vigilance. After the formation of Uttarakhand state, Vigilance has put 247 officers and employees behind bars since 2001. These include 61 gazetted officers. This is the first case in 2022, when Vigilance has arrested an IAS and sent it to jail. Till now, the officials of the Revenue and Forest Department were included in the list of those who went to jail. Acting in 234 cases on behalf of Vigilance, 247 have been arrested. The way corruption has increased in the state, action has not been able to speed up. In the month of April, 1064 helpline was issued by the Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to put the corrupt behind the bars. There were complaints about it, but so far only six corrupt people have been arrested by Vigilance. Of these, Vigilance is investigating on 64 complaints, but the matter has not been able to reach the arrest.
Investigation slow against NK Sharma and Kantiram Joshi
Vigilance had registered a case against the then Assistant Director of Social Welfare Department NK Sharma and Assistant Director Kanti Ram Joshi long back in the disproportionate assets case. NK Sharma has retired, while Kanti Ram Joshi is currently in service and is retiring this month. Action has not been taken in the name of action against both the officers.
There is also a shortage of complaints with Vigilance
According to the vigilance officers, people make complaints online, but no one comes forward openly. In such a situation, Vigilance does not get success in traveling. Along with this, there is talk of corruption in the police department, but not a single complaint has reached the Vigilance against the employees and officers of the police.
