Uttarakhand / Udhamsingh Nagar : Ban on a book that hurts the self-respect of Tharus
The protest against the remarks against Tharu Samaj in a book is not taking its name to stop. On Monday, under the banners of Barah Rana Smarak Samiti, Tharu Rana Yuva Manch, Chetak Vichar Manch and Tharu Tribal Development Committee, a large number of people from different villages of Sitarganj and Nanakmatta assembly constituencies gathered in Krishi Utpadan Mandi Committee and expressed their displeasure by meeting. Later, angry people took out a procession and burnt copies of the historian’s book at the main square.
Shripal Rana, president of Barah Rana Memorial Committee, said that Tharu society is self-respecting and the historian has hurt their self-respect. Society is deeply hurt by this. The people of the society in one voice demanded the government administration to ban the book and take legal action against the historian.
Nanakmatta MLA Gopal Singh Rana said that Tharu Samaj is the descendant of Maharana Pratap. Derogatory remarks in a book written by a historian cannot be tolerated at all. BJP Tribal Morcha state president Rakesh Rana alleged that a conspiracy has been hatched to change their history with bad intentions. After this, all the people reached the main square via Amaria Square in the form of a procession and demonstrated by burning copies of the book and shouting slogans.
The protesters handed over a memorandum addressed to CM Pushkar Singh Dhami to Tehsildar Jagmohan Tripathi. Later everyone reached the Kotwali and gave a complaint to CO Omprakash Sharma and demanded legal action against the accused historian.

Here, during the demonstration of Tharu Samaj, a large number of police forces were deployed at places ranging from Mandi Committee to Amaria Square, Main Square, MP Chowk etc. Kotwal Prakash Singh Danu was busy in smoothening the traffic system on the spot.
