A petition has been filed in the Bombay High Court regarding the demand for the removal of the Governor of Maharashtra regarding the comments made on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. In the petition, a demand has also been made to register an FIR against the Governor and BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi. The petition by a person named Deepak Dilip Jagdev demanded that the governor be impeached if found guilty of treason, or of any offense against the safety, security or integrity of the Union.

It has also been demanded that the Governor should be directed to obtain a mental health/mental soundness certificate from a psychiatrist till the petition is pending. Recently, a political storm broke out in Maharashtra after the remarks made by Governor Koshyari during a program in Aurangabad. Workers of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), NCP, Congress and other organizations protested for his expulsion.

Koshyari had said, ‘Earlier when you were asked who is your icon, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose and Mahatma Gandhi used to be the answer. You don’t need to look anywhere else in Maharashtra (as) there are so many icons here. While Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj belongs to the olden days, so do BR Ambedkar and Nitin Gadkari.
