Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav announced in a few words that he will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Kannauj seat. Talking to reporters on Thursday, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav said that what will I do by sitting empty? Our job is to contest elections and I will contest elections. Akhilesh Yadav said that he will contest again from the same place where he contested earlier.
Significantly, Akhilesh Yadav started his political journey from Kannauj seat only. Akhilesh Yadav became MP for the first time in the year 2000 by winning the by-election from Kannauj seat. After this, in 2004 and again in 2009, he reached the Lok Sabha by winning the Kannauj seat. After becoming the Chief Minister in 2012, he resigned from the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat.
Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav was elected unopposed as MP from Kannauj in 2012 and won the seat again in 2014. But in 2019, SP had to lose this seat. In 2019, Subrata Pathak of BJP won the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat by defeating Dimple Yadav, wife of Akhilesh Yadav, with a margin of 12353 votes.
The Samajwadi Party has fielded Dimple Yadav as the party’s candidate for the Mainpuri Lok Sabha bypoll, which fell vacant due to the death of her father-in-law and SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav.
