‘Such a statement should not be made by a person holding a high position’, says SC annoyed by Kiren Rijiju’s remarks

The Supreme Court has expressed displeasure over the statement of Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on the appointment of judges. The apex court said on Monday (November 28) that he did not have to say so. Perhaps the government is upset that the NJAC could not pass the constitutional test. Rijiju had said that the collegium cannot say that the government should immediately approve every name sent by it. Then they should appoint themselves.

Despite the recommendation of the collegium in the Supreme Court, the hearing was going on on the issue of delay in the appointment of judges. This hearing will now be held on December 8. The Attorney General will respond on behalf of the government on the pending files of the collegium recommendation.
