Aadhaar card address change made easy, UIDAI changed the rule

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has now enabled residents to update their address in Aadhaar card online with the consent of the head of their household. Residents can update their address online by submitting a document showing their relationship to the head of the household. UIDAI has given this information in an official statement released on Tuesday.

According to the information, such documents include ration cards, mark sheets, marriage certificates and passports, on which the names and relations of both the headman and the person are mentioned. The authority has also said that if a person does not have any such document, he can submit a self-declaration made by the head of the household in a prescribed format.

The facility to update address in Aadhaar online with the consent of the head of the household will be of great help to close relatives like children, spouse or parents of a resident who do not have supporting documents in their name. People keep changing cities and towns due to various reasons, so this facility will be helpful for lakhs of people.

This new facility to update the address entered in Aadhaar is different from the earlier facility. UIDAI has already been providing the facility to update the address on the basis of valid documents. The authority has also said that any person above the age of 18 years can be considered as the head of the household and can share his address with other members of his household. The address can be updated online by visiting the authority’s ‘My Aadhaar’ portal. For this, the authority has also fixed a fee of Rs 50.
