Government is taking effective initiative to identify Uttarakhand as “Organic State” – CM Dhami

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that effective initiatives are being taken by the central and state governments to identify Uttarakhand as an “organic state”. On Monday, the Chief Minister participated in a workshop organized by the Uttarakhand Organic Products Council at a hotel in Malsi, Dehradun. He said that the organization of “Organic Workshop” with the help of an international organization like “International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement” (IFOAM) will definitely make the concept of prosperous Uttarakhand meaningful. Would be an excellent way to do it. Effective initiatives are being taken by the Central and State Governments to recognize Uttarakhand as an “Organic State”.

The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s farming class is making rapid progress today. The central government is working to make the farmers of the country prosperous with many beneficial schemes. Along with organic agriculture in the state, work is being done on a plan to run Prime Minister Modi’s ambitious scheme “Natural Agriculture” on a large scale. In which, in the first phase, the action plan of “Natural Farming” has been approved in 6400 hectare area from this year itself.

The Chief Minister said that the state government is also committed to the all-round development of Uttarakhand as well as the development of farmers. As a result of this, the state has touched new heights in the field of organic agriculture in the last years. Organic agriculture is being done in 34 percent of Uttarakhand, continuous efforts are being made to increase it. The state government is also making efforts to convert all the 11 hill districts of the state into fully organic districts. He said that by 2025, a target has been set to bring Uttarakhand in the category of leading states of the country in every field. Continuous efforts are being made to make the farmers of the state financially empowered.

Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi said that this workshop is being organized with the aim of rapidly promoting organic farming in Uttarakhand. Field visits will be made by the subject experts to review the methods of organic farming being done in the state. What other efforts can be made to promote organic farming will also be discussed at a wide level in the workshop. He said that people’s inclination towards organic farming is increasing in the state. The Agriculture Minister said that he saw the methods of organic farming during his Europe tour. An MoU has been signed with IFOAM to promote it rapidly in the state.

Secretary Agriculture B.V.R.C. Purushottam, Director National Organic and Natural Farming Dr. Gagan Sharma, IFOAM President Gabor Figaxki, Senior Manager Patricia Flores, Director Agriculture Gauri Shankar and other officers of Agriculture Department were present on the occasion.
